T47-1.jpgArtist: Charles Frederick Naegele (b. 1857 - 1944)
Antique / Vintage Large Oil on Canvas Portrait of Lady

This original oil on canvas portrait of a Lady is beautifully done in great detail and color and presented in very nice gold gilt frame. Signed by artist Charles Frederick Naegele.
D: 47” H x 37” W

Artist: Charles Frederick Naegele was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, as a child Naegele moved with his parents to Memphis, where by 1873 he was apprenticed to a tombstone carver at three dollars a week. He also earned money painting signs, and it was through a sign commission that he met the marine painter, Charles Myles Collier, who gave painting lessons to the younger artist and then, in 1880, sent him to study in New York with William Sartain and William Merritt Chase. After completing his studies in 1882, Naegele remained in New York, quickly gaining favor as a portrait painter. He also designed medals and painted idealized figures of women portraying "Motherhood" and "American Beauty".
Later in his career, he turned increasingly to landscape paintings, particularly after his retirement to his hilltop studio, "Artcrest," near Marietta, Georgia. A winner of many exhibition prizes, he was a member of the Artists' Fund Society, the National Arts, Salmagundi and Lotos Clubs in New York, and the Atlanta Art Association. He died in Marietta in 1944.

T137-1.jpgAntique Oil on Canvas of Lovely Young Victorian Lady with Hand Muff

A fairly common theme during the era, this painting features young lady standing outside in the snow is dressed in a heavy Victorian dress with a bonnet and is carrying a fur muff
The signature is not obvious, but we found,in very tiny print on the right side of the painting, what appears to be a signature. It is illegible to us. Wee have included a magnified photo.
Please note the age as apparent by the color  of the rear of the canvas and the wood used in stretching the canvas . It is also mounted to the stretcher by small nails.
